CLOSING REMARKS BY PROF LUCY IRUNGU, PH.D THE VICE CHANCELLOR, MACHAKOS UNIVERSITY DURING INNOVATION WEEK HELD ON 24TH-28TH FEBRUARY, 2020

Ladies and gentlemen

Am glad to close this event and I believe that all of you have learned a lot in this one week of innovation and open days. The innovations have been quite enlightening and relevant to the theme and crucial to the Big Four Agenda. This year’s innovation week has marked the beginning of future yearly innovation week Machakos University intends to have. We have all had very fruitful innovations and it’s my hope that we are now more empowered than we came.

Ladies and gentlemen

A weeklong event such as this sheds some light and reinforces our efforts towards innovation and creativity to solve societal problems as a country. As the Machakos University our mandate is to impact our community positively and such forum achieves that aim. It is my appeal that we should embrace such events in future when we are called upon to participate. We therefore thank all the exhibitors who responded to our invitation and sacrificed to come within a short notice. We are grateful for such gesture to all of you.

Ladies and gentlemen

According to my observation as I went through various stands myself, it became more clearer in my mind that indeed we have untapped innovation potential. I noticed that as a University and all those exhibitors who came, we have all the innovation that can help our community. What we lack is provision of opportunity and innovation environment to articulate our creativity. We as a country, we need to re-examine our approach towards innovation and creativity if we intend to achieve our Big Four Agenda and the vision 2030.

Finally, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor of Machakos University, I wish to thank our visitors, exhibitors, staff, students and all facilitators for the very good innovation week we have had. I wish also to thank the innovation committee for organizing this function.

With these few remarks, I wish now to officially close this innovation week and wish our visitors and exhibitors safe journey.
