Opening of the 7th Machakos University International Conference 2026

Machakos University officially opened the 7th International Conference convened under the theme “Leveraging the Fifth Industrial Revolution (5IR) in Research and Technology for Sustainable Development.” The two-day conference runs from 18^th–19^th June 2026.

The Vice-Chancellor Prof. Joyce J. Agalo welcomed distinguished guests, scholars, researchers, and partners, reaffirming the University’s vision of “a leading institution of scholarship and innovation in the service of humanity” and mission of “providing scholarly education through training, research, innovation, and community outreach for sustainable development.”

The Chief Guest, Prof. Emeritus Ratemo Michieka, celebrated for his outstanding contribution to Higher Education, Research, Innovation, and National Development, emphasized the need to harness 5IR technologies responsibly. His key points included:

• Human-centered innovation that enhances social inclusion and well-being.
• Environmental sustainability through technology-driven solutions.
• Equitable development ensuring that advancements benefit all communities.

This year’s conference has drawn 125 abstracts from scholars across Kenya, the USA, Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria, and other countries, covering diverse fields such as education, governance, health sciences, engineering, agriculture, environmental sustainability, and information technology.

Prof. Agalo encouraged participants to engage actively, collaborate widely, and transform ideas into solutions that strengthen communities and contribute to sustainable futures. Machakos University remains steadfast in its role as a hub of knowledge and innovation, co-creating sustainable futures for Kenya and the world.
