Machakos University Launches Change Drive Following Staff Training

Machakos University has officially launched a bold institutional transformation agenda, following an intensive Change Management Training held on 25th and 26th June 2025 for both teaching and non-teaching members of staff.

In its inaugural meeting held on 1st July 2025, the newly constituted Change Management Committee, under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joyce Agalo unveiled an ambitious roadmap to steer the university’s anticipated reforms. This strategy is firmly anchored in key insights from the recent training sessions and aims to foster collaborative governance, agile service delivery, and a measurable, inclusive culture of innovation and co-creation.

Key Focus Areas from the Change Management Workshop

The committee endorsed five transformative pillars to guide the journey to the desired change:

  • Change Champions- appointed ambassadors to spearhead localized implementation across departments.
  • Listening Circles- structured engagement forums for staff and student feedback.
  • Change Metrics- clear alignment of transformation goals with performance indicators.
  • Streamlines Approvals- efficient and simplified administrative processes.
  • Digital Transparency- enhanced visibility into decision-making and operations.

Tracking Success: What Will Be Measured

To ensure accountability and tangible results, the initiative will track progress through;

  • Staff engagement and feedback surveys
  • Student retention and course satisfaction levels
  • Efficiency gains in internal processes (i.e. turnaround time for approvals)

Everyone Has a Voice

Every staff member is now empowered to contribute to this transformative journey. Suggestions, concerns, and ideas can be submitted formally or informally to any member of the Change Management Committee.

“Your voice drives change. Share your ideas or proposals with any committee member, every perspective will be heard and acknowledged.” (Silvanus Mukai, Committee Member)

“This is not about cosmetic adjustments. We are pursuing deep, staff-led transformation to elevate service excellence and foster interdepartmental synergy” (Prof. Joyce Agalo, Vice-Chancellor)
