Machakos University continues to strengthen its commitment to nurturing transformative and responsible student leadership through structured capacity-building programmes. This was evident during the induction of the Student Association of Machakos University (SAMU) Governing Council 2026, where University Management provided strategic guidance to the newly elected student leaders.
In her keynote address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joyce J. Agalo, emphasized the importance of servant leadership, integrity, and accountability. She urged the student leaders to embrace their roles with a deep sense of responsibility, noting that leadership is fundamentally about service to others. She further challenged the Governing Council to translate the aspirations of the student body into tangible actions while maintaining a balance between leadership responsibilities and academic excellence.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs), Professor James Muola, underscored the importance of discipline and adherence to University rules and regulations. He particularly highlighted compliance with academic policies, including examination regulations, as a critical responsibility of student leaders. He encouraged the council to lead by example in upholding integrity, fairness, and respect for institutional frameworks.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration, Planning and Finance), Prof. CPA. Florence S. Memba, made a significant contribution by donating a leadership book to support their leadership journey. In her remarks, she emphasized the importance of financial prudence, accountability, and transparency in leadership.

The induction programme, covered key areas such as governance, leadership responsibilities, emotional intelligence, mental health, and conflict resolution, equipped the student leaders with practical skills necessary for effective service delivery.
The SAMU Governing Council 2026 is now well-positioned to undertake its mandate with confidence, competence, and a strong commitment to positive transformation. The induction event was held at KALRO AMRI Katumani.
