Machakos University Partners with Kenya Red Cross Society for the “Power of Humanity Walk 2025”

On 17th May 2025, Machakos University joined hands with the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS), Machakos Chapter, to host the Power of Humanity Walk 2025 a meaningful event aimed at promoting humanitarian values, civic engagement, and community resilience.

The event commenced with opening remarks from the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joyce J. Agalo, who acknowledged the good work done by Red Cross whose core mandate is to protect human lives and dignity in the face of armed conflict and other situations of violence, as well as preventing suffering through the promotion of humanitarian law and principles.

Attendees were enlightened by an informative presentation on the global mission of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. A practical fire safety simulation, led by the Director of Emergency Services and Disaster Management and supported by Fire and Rescue Marshalls, equipping participants with essential emergency preparedness skills.
Following a briefing on walk protocols, the national anthem was performed by the band, setting an inspiring tone for the symbolic walk through Machakos town a public demonstration of solidarity with humanitarian causes and community support.
The event theme was “Importance of Safety in Schools,” reminding participants about the need to ensure safety in learning environments. This message was in line with the Kenya Red Cross’s celebration of 60 years of service to humanity.
