Machakos University Students Excel in 2025 Global Huawei ICT Competition in China

Machakos University has once again showcased its growing expertise in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) on the global stage. A team of ICT students from the institution achieved remarkable success at the 2025 Global Huawei ICT Competition held in China, a prestigious event that draws participation from the world’s top academic institutions.

Mark Omaiko and Ian Omwenga emerged as first prize winners in the Computing Track Category, proudly raising the Kenyan flag high. Additionally, Brian Kipkoech delivered an outstanding performance by securing the second prize in the Network Track Category, further solidifying the University’s position in the international ICT community.

Now in its 9th edition, the Huawei ICT Competition attracted more than 210,000 students and instructors from over 2,000 universities across 48 countries and regions. Under the theme “Connection, Glory, and Future,” the competition aimed to foster digital skills, encourage innovation, and strengthen collaboration between academia and the ICT industry. Machakos University has been participating in Global Huawei ICT Competition since 2021 with exemplary performance.
The Global Huawei ICT Competition is widely recognized as a premier platform for nurturing global ICT talent. It is endorsed by UNESCO’s Global Skills Academy as a flagship initiative for upskilling youth in the digital age. Since its inception, the competition has engaged over 960,000 participants from more than 2,000 colleges and universities in over 100 countries and regions.
