Preparing Graduates For A Competitive World

Machakos University successfully hosted the Finalists Career Day on Friday, 27th March 2026, at the University Amphitheatre. The event brought together final-year students, university leadership, alumni, and industry experts under the theme: “Beyond Graduation: Transitioning to Excellence in Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Impact in a Competitive World.”

The official opening of the event was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joyce J. Agalo, who underscored the University’s commitment to producing graduates who are not only academically competent but also innovative, entrepreneurial, and socially impactful.

Alumni led by Mr. Vincent Were shared their valuable insights, emphasizing the importance of resilience, networking, and continuous learning in building a successful career. He also encouraged graduates to actively engage with the alumni network as a platform for mentorship, collaboration, and career growth.

Further enriching the discussions, Mr. Geoffrey Lenjiling from the National Employment Authority sensitized students on various government initiatives aimed at youth empowerment. His session highlighted available programs, funding opportunities, and support systems designed to promote employment and entrepreneurship among young graduates.

In addition, Ms. Mary Mogana from Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO) emphasized the importance of volunteerism and experiential learning. She noted that hands-on experience plays a critical role in developing practical skills, enhancing employability, and shaping well-rounded professionals ready to meet industry demands.

The afternoon session was dedicated to hands-on career preparation, with an intensive workshop led by HR and career expert CPA Moses Mwariri. Students were guided on effective CV writing, interview techniques, and professional development skills necessary to thrive in a competitive employment landscape.

The event culminated in a keynote address by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joyce J. Agalo, who delivered a powerful closing message encouraging finalists to embrace innovation, maintain integrity, and pursue excellence in all their endeavors. She reaffirmed the University’s confidence in its graduates as future leaders and change-makers.
